The curriculum at Malta Montessori School is rooted in the teachings and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. As one of Italy’s first female physician in 1870, Dr. Montessori’s medical practice and clinical observations led her to study how children learn. She discovered that children construct their understanding of the world through their environment.
In 1906, she began working with sixty young children from working-class families in Rome’s San Lorenzo district, where she established the first Children’s House. It was there that the Montessori method took shape, based on her scientific observations of children’s natural curiosity and their ability to absorb knowledge effortlessly through hands-on experiences. She designed every material, activity, and approach to support what she observed children doing instinctively—learning independently, without direct adult intervention.
At Malta Montessori School, we embrace this philosophy, providing a warm, home-like environment where children develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
